Writing on an Icy Window

I recently spent 5 days in warm weather and came home to 2 degrees above zero. Brrrrr!

Noticing some ice on the windows, I remember “writing” on the icy windows of the car, the house, and any where an icy window could be found as a child. Children love this experience still today!

So, I don’t have to talk anyone into trying it. Children are eager!

Anytime letter writing can be reinforce and practiced in a fun way, let’s take advantage of that! If the window gets written on all over, don’t worry, there will be more ice tomorrow. (But, I really am ready for warmer weather!)

A little science with the cold window glass and why the warm finger melts the ice.

A little small muscle with writing the letters.

A little pre-reading with naming and identifying letters (or numbers).

A little vocabulary building and conversation while writing.

(If you are not in brrrrr cold weather, use a mirror and a little steam to enjoy this activity.)
